Who’s the Bigger Moron, Part 2: Pig-Faced BCS Commish Swofford
Maybe it’s just me. Maybe I don’t drink enough of the BCS/ESPN Flavor-Aid, but I am starting to think these guys actually believe the drivel they are spouting. I just wonder how they can do that in good conscience.
An article caught my eye with a headline about how the BCS thinks they have a solid legal position, should anyone come at them with a Federal Anti-trust suit. I’m not an anti-trust lawyer, so I don’t know about that. However, here is the article in all its glory. It’s almost laughable what this guy says. Even more laughable to think he believes it!
So this is John Swofford, who is the ACC commissioner and the “BCS Coordinator.” Huh. Maybe that explains why the ACC is in the BCS. I don’t know. Anyway, he looks to me like a pig-faced, toupee-wearing piece of sick.
Favorite quote number 1:
“The BCS provided a platform for Utah to show the nation what a terrific football [team] they had this year.” Swofford said. “Preceding the BCS, I don’t know if that platform would have been there.”
Uh, yeah, John. The platform was there. It was called AP and Coaches polls. And what they did was vote for who they thought was best. Sure, there was still East Coast bias and lack of availability of Western games, but it was not the BCS who gave Utah that opportunity.
Case in point: in 1984, it was Utah-rival BYU who was crowned National Champions based largely on being undefeated that year. So yes, the opportunity was there before the BCS.
Favorite quote number 2:
“The non-AQ conferences have greater access to the top-level bowls than ever in history because of the BCS,” Swofford said.
He is talking about non “automatically qualifying” conferences like the MWC.
Let’s see… “greater access…because of the BCS”? It’s because of the BCS that there even became a need for “greater access.”
That’s about the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard.
